Parent’s Code of Conduct:

Please respect the following guidelines:

·         Only St Mirren Football Club Coaches and players will be allowed within the academy. There will usually be ample viewing areas available, however experience has shown us, that in general, children are more focused when their parents are not present. Please be quiet when watching training sessions.

·         If players are to get the most from their coaching sessions or games, then it is important that the only instructive voices they hear are those of the coaches. We ask therefore that parents save their comments as we feel this will contradict our coaching staff.

·         We only have a limited contact time with the players and we would like to use this time fully. It will help us to do this if the players are punctual.

·         We welcome comments from you and the staff will be available prior to and at the end of coaching sessions and at other times by arrangement. However, the staff will not generally be available before, during or immediately after games.

·         Remember, young people are involved in football for their enjoyment, not yours.

·         Don’t live your dream through your children.

·         Encourage the young players to have respect and not be big headed.

·         Encourage young players to rest appropriately and have a healthy lifestyle.

·         Encourage young players to practice away from the club.

·         Encourage young players to fill out their diet / nutrition diaries and self – evaluation diaries.

·         Work together and support your son’s coaches.

·         Encourage your child always to play by the laws of the game.

·         Teach young players that honest endeavour is as important as winning, so that the result of each game is accepted without extreme emotions.

·         Help young players to work towards skill improvement and good sportsmanship

·         Set a good example by applauding good play on both sides.

·         Never ridicule, humiliate or shout at young players for making a mistake or losing a match.

·         Do not place emphasis on winning at all costs.

·         Support all efforts to remove all forms of abuse from sport.

·         As a spectator, do not use profane language or harass referees, coaches or players.

·         Do not publicly question the referees’ judgement or honesty.

·         Recognise the value and importance of referees, coaches and volunteers.
